Engagement bears – request from a friend.

Image

Engagements are fun are they not? You get to announce it to the world in whatever fashion you desire. Be it writings in the sky, a dramatic drop-knee at a top romantic restaurant or just some other creative slash mundane way that suits you. There’s so much excitement over the ring and the planning of high teas. The sweet little treat to celebrate this momentous step closer to the big day.

Writer break: Got to grab a chocolate milk. Throat is scratchy. Ok, back at it.

So, when a good buddy asked if I can create an illustration of 2 teddy bears holding a chalkboard with ‘We’re Engaged’ on it, I, of course, said yes :] It ‘s for her invites she told me. She referenced the forever bears and the fizzy moon bears. I gave it a quick google and then got on to getting down some roughs. The roughs… they are mighty rough, made to scribble some poses and composition in. I refined them a bit to give her a notion of how the colouring of the bears would be simulated and also shaped up the lines a little.

She chose ‘B’ and wanted some casual clothes, pink bow on the boy bear and a simple pink dress for the girl bear :] Off to work I went embellishing as I go along. Freedom is key. Line art is always fun when you get drawn into it… time flies whilst you get the lines just the way you want it. Added some name tags near the end. I am a slow worker and I am a perfectionist in regards to getting things just so… so I’m like a turtle that doesn’t give up. 20 years later (haha 3 days later working on and off and watching Rachel Khoo on TV)… I produce this:

I utilised the natural brush set that comes with PS6. Drew directly on the screen of my Surface Pro2 (E’s christmas present to me) whilst lying about.

Easy Creme Brulee Recipe

creme-brulee8jpgCreme Brulee… the toffee top, the silky custard and the lovely spattering of vanilla beans on the last layer… what is there not to love about this scrumptious dessert? It is definitely one of the strong contenders on my restaurant to-eat list, the words on the menu persuading me to dig deeper into my pockets everytime. Fighting alongside said creme brulee would be the pannacotta and sticky date pudding with creme anglaise. Yes… there is probably a pattern to my addiction… puddings.

Seeing how Norway is a lovely place with a strong price tag on all things service, ‘homemade’ has been the category I choose to spend most of my time in. Once you have a go at this recipe, you’ll see how incredibly simple it is to whip up and you may also feel a little ripped off XD ! I’ve made this creme brulee around 3 times over the last 2 or so weeks, it is so yummy…now I just have to get going on the 7 egg whites waiting in the freezer… maybe a trial at macarons? ๐Ÿ™‚

Onto the recipe!

creme-brulee1

Ingredients: 38g sugar +extra for toffee; 100ml cream; 100ml milk; 2 egg yolks and…

creme-brulee2

… a good pinch of vanilla or half a stick of vanilla bean.

This is for 2 people to share, it would make around 200ml of custard so choose a pretty bowl accordingly.

creme-brulee3

Preheat the oven to 150degrees.
Pour cream, milk, vanilla bean powder and sugar into a pot and bring it to almost a boil.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture infuse and cool down.
Whisk in the 2 egg yolks until well combined.
Pour this into a ramekin and bake in a water basin for 30-35 minutes.
Chill the custard in the fridge for a couple of hours before sprinkling sugar on top and using a culinary torch to make the toffee top.

Simple ingredients, simple cooking but absolutely decadent dessert ๐Ÿ™‚ Try to make it, it’ll definitely be agreeable X) Enjoy!

On… 17th of May in Norway

17th of May-1
It felt like a day dedicated to many many colourful balloons!

Festivity and lots of people out and about for Norway’s Constitution day. Highly overcast skies but temperature was at a comfortable 20 or so degrees.

So what is the skinny on this 17th of May? It is Norway’s official national day :] So, according to a classmate’s husband, Norway had it’s constitution a century or so before it was given it’s ‘true’ independence. Being handed off from the Danes to the Swedes for an extra 100 or so years of ruling couldn’t have been all that fun for this fish loving, nature walking, rain attracting awesome country. So 17th of May is where all the Norwegians dress up in their fineries or their bunads – traditional rural wear turned proper festive wear, different colours and embellishments dependent on which area of Norway the mother is hailed from … or made up ones –ย  and have a lovely, crowded and fun family and friends day with a good helping of hot dogs and icecream :]

Here’s what I was able to snap amongst the festivities, enjoy!

Wow it’s been a long sunday baking it up in the kitchen!
Gulrotkake stk
I first tried this lovely carrot cake at a friend’s place. It was soooo very moist and ridiculously easy to make. Even grating the 10 or so carrots wasn’t so bad when you have friends about. :] I asked for the recipe and have been waiting to create the carrot cake once more. Cue in Sunday baking and inviting E’s family over for after dinner cake and decadent hot chocolate :]Gulrotkake Recipe
